final blog

Using blogger seems more professional and has spell check which can help you learn how to spell some words. The drawback to using blogger would be needing internet access if you want to check your profile. I almost failed one of my essay blogs which gave me incentive on looking at other peoples essays I learned a few things from them, and realized what my mistake was on my essay. My grammar has improved a a lot by taking a vocabulary class, which has helped me put strong grammar into my essays. The fact that everything i post of my writing material is public doesn't really affect me since i am pretty sure no one has looked up my essays to read them.

My strengths in writing is grammar and punctuality. I think i am a strong enough writer in this field that won't need much help in ENG101, but my weaknesses are finding examples as i often have a hard time relating some essays to examples needed. I refurbished my skills in writing from being clueless on how to write an essay to knowing what an introduction paragraph, body and conclusion should include. In ENG101 i am hoping to learn as much as possible in every field so i can further my knowledge.

I will be revising Practice test 2. Practice test 2 was my weakest essay because one of my body paragraphs was an example given in the passage. I didn't know you couldn't use something from the passage,so one of my examples was very weak. Another example for my essay that would have sufficed would have been how expensive health care is.

1.The day of the catw exam I to have the steps of writing an essay memorized. I will read the passage thoroughly twice and summarize what it was about.Provide the right format for what i will write such as a strong general sentence for my introduction and good vocabulary. Body paragraphs need to have a specific developed example and i will be sure to provide that. And a decent conclusion for the essay.

2. I have to be aware that an example i choose for my essay isn't in the passage.
I don't get nervous on test.

3.Re-reading my essay after im finished with it with close examination

Music

There are many ways to cure deceases, such as antibiotics, surgery, and therapy. In the passage "How and why is music a good tool for health?" by Elizabeth Scott she talks about an intricate kind of therapy which utilized music to affect your body and mind. Hospitals have begun to use music therapy to alleviate pain, help depression, promote movement, appease patients, relieve muscle tension, and other benefits.I agree when  the passage states "Music can also be used to ring a more positive state of mind, helping to keep depression and anxiety under control."
Research has shown that music with a strong beat can bring sharper concentration and more alert thinking. My friend who works out a lot has actually told me what helps him stay upbeat. He goes to the gym everyday for an hour, but before doing so he makes a music playlist of the Dubstep Genre. This music contains loud, strong, and fast beats. He has told me this type of music helps him persevere and keeps him motivated. Bodybuilding sites on the internet have people who say this music genre is guaranteed to help.
Another reasearch shows taht breathign and heart rate may be affected by music.Music with slow, and soothing melodies often bring slower breathing and a sense of relaxation. I saw a documentary on Buddhist Monks on the discovery channel explaining their midtation techniques. Sure enough they used soothing music to aid relaxation and remove tension. The monks have said that using music has been used for a really long time.
In Conclusion, Music can do many things for us, like therapy for the sick.Whether it's working out at an extreme pace, or relaxing to enter a meditative state that monks do. Music is indispensable to the world. Maybe it can be even more advanced given more time.

Blog #5

The movie "Gone Baby Gone" talks about consequentialism and ethical absolutism.
The Police Captain, Remy,  and Lionel all follow consequentialism. They think that after choosing something and analyzing the consequences they can judge what decision is more ethical. The Police Captain, Remy,  and Lionel come up with a plan to kidnap a girl named Amanda from a drug addicted mother, Doyle would then retire from his job and take care of this little girl they view this as an ethical choice in their own head. Lionel sees Heleen as a terrible mother undeserving of having Amanda so he passes judgement and believes that kidnapping Amanda and giving her to Police Captain Doyle would be more then suffice to take care of her niece.Consequentialism is the view that morality is all about producing a great outcome from the given problem.
Ethical Absolutism is when and act is the same regardless of context, such as, a kidnapping will always remain unethical even if the consequence is amazing. In the movie ''Gone Baby Gone'' Patrick, the main character is seen to have ethical absolute values. He knows that Amanda will most likely have a better life with Doyle, but kidnapping her was the wrong thing to do whichever way the consequentialism characters view it. Consequentialism and ethical absolutism can be very controversial at times. For instance, A guy pulls a knife out on someone and they start fighting, the victim manages to grab the knife and ends up stabbing the antagonist. Consequentialism would believe that he used self defense and he is still alive making him a very lucky person,While ethical absolutism would just brand him as a murderer.
In the movie "Gone Baby Gone" the predominant type of value was consequentialism. Patrick was the only absolutist, therefore the movie sees that most people would have chosen Amanda to be left with Doyle. After making his decision to send Amanda back to her mother, Patrick's girlfriend leaves him because she too believes in consequentialism. Patrick thought that Heleen might have a chance of changing due to the traumatic events but the ending shows she is still the same. Patrick lives with his decision and decides to babysit Amanda and check up on her from time to time because Heleen won't change. The movie shows a Ethical Absolutism answer with a negative consequence.

CATW Practice 2

Staying healthy may not always be easy.Unexpected tragedies may occur to an individual, and when you need help you go to the hospital and the first thing they will ask is "Do you have Insurance?" In "The woman who died in the waiting Room" by Jeenen Interland, it talks about a woman who feel out of her chair, and no one helped her while she perished. I agree with the statement "Public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide acute psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured since the early 1960's."
I have heard about people fainting in the emergency room in hospitals a couple of times. Esmin Green, a woman who collapsed in Brooklyn's largest psychiatric hospital died shortly after. This woman needed medical attention, but probably didn't have insurance so she was asked to wait. Hospitals don't have enough resources to keep up with the amount of sick and uninsured patients who come seeking assistance.
I read an article in the New York Times about a man in construction who had an accident. His arm was severed and he was losing a lot of blood. His crew member rushed him to the hospital, but he didn't have insurance so he needed to persevere his anguish until he would be treated. An hour had passed when he finally got called. He had his arm infected and they had to amputate more to prevent it from spreading. Had he been treated sooner the damages could have been minimal, now he cant work in construction anymore bringing turmoil on what he can do to support his family.
Hospitals need to treat patients as soon as possible regardless whether or not they have Insurance. Esmin Green died and the construction worker was left handicapped. There should be more funding for hospitals and more aware staff members to be aware of those in great need.

Blog 4: CATW Practice 1

Education is something a lot of people strive for because it can bring forth many opportunities in one's life. America has in-state and out-of-state tuition, out-of-state tuition being more expensive. In "An Education In Citizenship" an excerpt from Chicago Tribune. It explains an ordeal of Illegal Immigrants able to go to college and only having to pay in-state tuition. A lot of people disagree of this privilege to an expensive and valuable benefit while having no Legal right to be in the country. But I think Illegal Immigrants should be allowed this privilege.
My aunt came to this country around 7 years ago, she had a son and a Low-income job. She started attending LaGuardia Community College to obtain a good career in her life. Looking back I remember how hard she studied and how committed she was. Thanks to some financial-aid she graduated and has a career as an assistant teacher now. She persevered and accomplished her goals because she was able to take classes without being a citizen.
I believe one's determination should tell how much help someone receives financially. I read an article in the "New York Times" discussing how it was taking longer times to accomplish their degrees due to laziness and failing, Thus spending more government money. Why shouldn't determined Immigrants receive education while others waste their money and not gain any knowledge?
People's problem with this is that Immigrants pay the same money. Out-of-state might be too expensive for them though. Education should never be something denied just because someone isn't a citizen. Everyone deserves the same treatment and opportunities.
